Best practices for size, placement, error correction, and design when adding QR codes to flyers, posters, and packaging.
Minimum Size
A QR code should be at least 2cm × 2cm for reliable scanning from a typical arm's length (30–40 cm). For outdoor posters seen from 2–3 metres, aim for at least 8cm × 8cm.
Quiet Zone
Always leave a "quiet zone" — a clear white border — of at least 4 modules (the small squares in the QR) around all four sides. Without it, scanners often fail.
Add a Call to Action
Never print a QR code alone. Always add a short instruction: "Scan to view the menu", "Scan for 10% off", or "Scan to learn more". Users are more likely to scan when they know what they get.
