What is a UPI QR code?
A UPI QR code is a QR code that encodes a Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payment request so a customer can pay you with a single scan. Under the hood it stores a standard UPI deep-link in the form upi://pay?pa=[VPA]&pn=[name]&am=[amount] — where pa is your Virtual Payment Address (VPA, e.g. yourname@upi), pn is the payee name, and am is an optional pre-filled amount. When a customer scans it, their UPI app opens with your details already populated.
Because it follows the NPCI standard, a single UPI QR code works with every UPI app — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, Amazon Pay, CRED, and more. Money moves directly from the customer's bank account to yours with zero MDR (Merchant Discount Rate), so there are no per-transaction fees. No POS machine or card terminal is needed — just print the QR and display it.

How do I create a UPI QR code?
Sign up on Photon QR, click Create QR, choose "UPI Payment", enter your UPI ID (VPA like yourname@upi), add a merchant name, and optionally pre-fill an amount. Download the QR as PNG and print or display it anywhere.
Which UPI apps work with Photon QR's UPI QR code?
All UPI-compliant apps: Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, Amazon Pay, CRED, WhatsApp Pay, Mobikwik, and any other NPCI-approved UPI app. The QR follows the standard UPI deep-link format.
Is there a fee to accept UPI payments?
No — UPI payments have zero MDR (Merchant Discount Rate) for merchants. Payments go directly from the customer's bank to yours. Photon QR does not charge per transaction.
Can I set a fixed amount in the UPI QR?
Yes — when creating the QR, enter a fixed amount. Customers who scan will see the amount pre-filled in their UPI app. They can still modify it unless the app locks it.
What if I change my UPI ID or bank account?
Simply update your UPI ID in the Photon QR dashboard. The printed QR code never changes — it redirects through Photon QR's system, so the new UPI ID takes effect immediately.
Can I track how often my UPI QR is scanned?
Yes — Photon QR logs every QR scan with city, device, and timestamp. Note: scan tracking records when the QR is scanned (opened), not individual payment completions — payment confirmation comes from your UPI app or bank.
